My First GDMLI Work Day
This year I was selected to participate in the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute‘s (GDMLI) Community Leadership Program (CLP). This is a HUGE honor. CLP is Central Iowa’s premier and longest standing leadership program.
For our class project, we are working with Amanda the Panda to renovate their newly-purchased grief center in order to help the organization reach more hurting children and families. The new facility will double Amanda the Panda’s current space to allow for program expansion, provide a fenced outdoor space for activities and create increased community awareness.
We had a small work crew on Saturday, January 26th, as Project Panda continued its forward momentum from the previous work weekend.
The goal: make a hole for the new staircase. Sounds easy, right?
My Urbandale Chamber Membership Maximizing Strategy
About a month ago I decided to join the Urbandale Chamber. I’d been “dating” chambers for the past three years, trying to decide which one included the types of businesses I work with and my matched well with my own personal brand.
I landed on the Urbandale Chamber because of the two reasons above as well as the fact that they’re extremely active and offer a lot of benefits to its membership. There are so many opportunities to get involved morning, noon and night!
As with all marketing tactics, I’ve developed my strategy to get the most out of my investment:
DSM Networking: dsm Magazine
Anyone and everyone is invited to attend (for free) dsm Magazine‘s amazing events. I find out about their events via their Facebook Fan Page.
dsm is published quarterly, with a fifth edition, The Men’s Book and The Women’s Book, published in the fall. The magazine’s monthly e-newsletters include Giving City, Savor and dsmArts. In the fall of 2012, the magazine group will launch a new magazine, called ia, that will showcase the best of the state of Iowa.
dsm’s popular events, attended by the metro area’s influentials, include unveiling parties; Sages Over 70; and The List party.
